COMEBACK KIDS
9 run 6th inning stuns Royals
who had 6 run lead going into the final innings.
Mar 30, 2026 - As comebacks go, this
was a pretty darn good one. The Cyclones were
sleepwalking through the first 5 innings on Sunday. The
Royals starting pitcher had the Cyclones reaching, leaning
and mostly off balance all afternoon until the 6th inning.
For the Royals it went downhill from there. For the
Cyclones it was a reawakening that was much needed. The
inning started when Tom West reached on an error was capped
when Tom West, 11 batters later, lined a single to right
center to drive in 2 runs putting a feather in the hat of
this inning. In between, Chuck Poteet, Craig Baser and Drew
Torres all flirted with home runs, but got huge hits just
the same instead, with Drew and Chuck with doubles and Craig
with a long 2 run single.
On the mound, Juan Zuniga started for the
Cyclones. While Juan pitch 5-1/3 innings, it's what happened
at the beginning and what happened at the end that define
this outing. Juan allowed the first 5 batters to reach base
before getting the first out, 4 of which scored. After that,
Juan settled in nicely, got out of the inning and pitched
into the 5th inning. It was in the 5th where Juan ran into
trouble again, allowing 3 more runs to score and only
registering 1 out before giving way to Dean Cosme. Cosme
threw one pitch to get 2 outs and get Juan out of a bases
loaded jam. In the 7th, Cosme allowed 1 run to score
before inducing a grounder for a force play to finish the
10-8 comeback victory.
