Cyclones Complete Suspended Game With Victory

May 22, 2016 - The Cyclones completed their suspended game vs. the Twins to secure the victory.  Coming back from an 11-5 deficit, the Cyclones scored 7 runs on the top of the 7th innings to take the lead 12-11 over the Twins.  As the Twins readied to begin their bottom half of the inning, the lights cut off and the game was suspended. Fast forward 2 weeks and the game was completed yesterday ahead of the rain which in turn postponed their second meeting of the season after a few innings were complete.

Cyclones Vs. Twins Suspended Due To Lights

May 7, 2016 - The final results of the game between the Spring Cyclones and the Houston Twins are on hold until the game is completed May 21st, prior to their match up that same day.

With the Cyclones rallying to go ahead of the Twins 12-11, the lights at Mason Park turned off as the Twins prepared for their final at bats of the game.

Cyclones Let One Slip Away Again

May 2, 2016 - For the third time this season, the Spring Cyclones had a incumbent playoff team on the ropes near defeat, only to let it slip away in the final inning and twice in the final at bat.  Earlier this season, the Cyclones were leading the Thunder 3-1 before allowing 6 runs in the bottom half of the 6th inning to lose 7-3.

Just a few weeks ago, the Cyclones had the undefeated Drillers ready to accept their first defeat, but allowed 3 runs in the final inning to allow the Drillers to remain undefeated, losing 7-6.

And Sunday night, disaster struck again as the Cyclones once again failed to hold a lead late in the game.  A see-saw battle all night vs. the Marauders, the Cyclones went up 6-5 heading into the bottom half of the 7th inning but 2 key errors cost the Cyclones the lead and then the game as the Marauders rallied to defeat the Cyclones 7-6.

Cosme, Cyclones Shutdown Yankees

April 17, 2016 - Starting pitcher Dean Cosme worked out of a first inning bases loaded-no out jam and felt that wasn't good enough so he decided to do it again in the fourth inning.  Twice in one game the Yankees loaded the bases and failed to score a run.

Meanwhile, the Cyclones offense played the slow and steady game scoring in the first and third innings before extending the lead in the fifth, sixth and then seventh innings to put the game out of reach and seal the victory.

With the game tied at 1, Cosme helped himself with a 2-out, 2 run single to give himself and the Cyclones the lead and the team never looked back from there.  It was a collective effort on the part of the Cyclones as 7 of the 9 starters had a hit and 8 of 9 had a run scored.

Drillers Walk-Off Cyclones 7-6

April 11, 2016 - Dan Dantche started for the Cyclones and pitched well enough for the win and was in line for the win when he ran out of gas and relief pitching came in to finish the game.  With a 2 run lead heading in the the home half of the last inning, the Cyclones made the move to the bullpen and in the span of 6 batters, gave up the lead and then gave up the game.

Uninspired Cyclones Shot Down By Colt 45's

April 7, 2016 - The Colt 45's took advantage of an uninspired, listless Cyclones club that seemed as though they preferred not to be there.  Defensively, the Cyclones played listlessly and allowed too many errors.  Offensively, the Colt 45's shut them down after a shaky first inning and the Cyclones never recovered from there.

Cyclones Collapse Vs. Thunder, Fall 7-3

April 3, 2016 - The final line for starting pitcher Andy Perez will never indicate how dominant he was on Saturday against the Texas Thunder.  The final line of 3 runs (2 ER), 7 hits and 6 K really should have read much differently.  After allowing a lead off double which eventually became an unearned run, Perez kept the mighty Thunder in check for the most part until the 8th inning.  But like many things in life, things change in a blink of an eye.  Andy started the fateful 8th inning with a 3-1 lead and having only allowed 1 unearned run on 5 hits, but with the game on the line, Mgr Dean Cosme couldn't afford to leave Andy in the game too long.

Perez allowed hits to the first two batters so Cosme went to the bullpen.  As much as it was the right decision, it came back to haunt Cosme as the bullpen allowed 6 runs to score, including Andy's 2 that he allowed to reach.

Cyclones Walk-Off Diablos for 10-9 Victory

March 29, 2016 - Jorge Atencio delivered a bases clearing 3 RBI walk-off double to give the Cyclones a much needed come from behind win against the Houston Diablos. Trailing 9-6 in the bottom of the seventh, JR Morua worked a 1 out walk followed by Dave McBride who also walked.  Dean Cosme smacked an RBI single to right after working a 3-2 count. Newcomer John Richardson also walked to load the bases for lead off batter Jorge Atencio.  After getting behind 1-2, Jorge roped a middle-up fastball to deep left-center field to deliver the walk-off.

Starting pitcher JR Morua began the game strong with all pitches working but slowly began to run out of gas as the defense started to let him down.  After staking JR to a 5-1 lead after 2 innings, the defense coughed up the lead in the 4th inning.  In the bottom of the 4th, Atencio led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a hit by Mark McDowell and moved to third on a passed ball.  Gabe Medina followed with a sacrifice fly to tie it up at 6 all.

Dean Cosme took over for JR Morua in the 5th and worked 2-2/3 scoreless innings before giving up the go-ahead runs to the Diablos in the 7th.  Cosme became the winning pitcher as beneficiary of Jorge's walk-off.

Houston Yankees Shutout Cyclones 9-0

March 22, 2016 - Shakey defense and silent bats on the part of the Spring Cyclones doom them against a newly revamped Houston Yankees squad.

Spring Season Begins In March

March 10, 2016 - The Spring Cyclones of the Houston Hardball League begin their quest for their third Championship next week.  As the beginning of the season looms near, many questions are still left unanswered.  Mainly concerning the starting pitching, the roster is still in a state of flux as there are 2 roster spots that remain open.  Sparked by the defections of first baseman Kevin Cosgriff-Hernandez and outfielder David Fantin to the Colt 45's, the roster has seen an overhaul of sorts with 7 new additions while players such as Andy Perez, Gabe Medina and Jorge Atencio remain the core of Spring Cyclones.

With all that said, Mgr Dean Cosme expects the Cyclones to be very competitive and in the hunt for a playoff spot and look to go deep into the playoffs with the hopes of another title.
