CYCLONES MAUL MARAUDERS
8 run 1st inning lead the way for a rout in regular season finale.

July 1, 2024 - After putting up a clunker the week prior, the Houston Cyclones looked to rebound heading into the final game of the regular season and head into the playoffs on an upswing.  Consider it MISSION ACCOMPLISHED! At full strength fort he first time all season, the Cyclones came ready to prove to themselves as well as everyone else that they are still a force to be reckoned with. Manager Dean Cosme was given the luxury of his full cache of weapons and he used it to the Cyclones advantage.

The Cyclones had 22 hits, 3 doubles, 6 walks, 6 stolen bases 2 HBP and a partridge in a pear tree to rout the Marauders 19-2.  The Marauders started their pitcher who tamed the Cyclones in the season opener, but he was unable to recreate the magic that gave the Marauders a 3-2 victory to open the season.  Instead, he found himself in an 8-0 hole after the first inning and the Cyclones never relented.

On the other side of the ball, the Cyclones also finally had the defensive rotation Mgr Dean Cosme so desires, that keeps everyone fresh and on their toes. Cosme also started on the mound for the Cyclones and threw 4 innings of 1 run ball, while Justin Putnal and Eddie Baray combined to allow only 1 more run in the final 3 innings of the game.

DIFFERENT KIND OF SPLIT
Double Header Sunday see Cyclones tie the Astros 2-2 and hold off the Rangers 7-6

May 20, 2024 - Over the last few years, each season has had a pre-scheduled double header built into the schedule.  Sunday was this year's Double Header Day. This year, it so happened to coincide with the beginning of Houston's "summer" weather and that means it was a warm and muggy day. And while temps only reach in the low 90's and the humidity was relatively low, it was quite the increase over the last time the Cyclones took the field almost 1 month ago.

Speaking of which, the last time the Cyclones were on the field, they left in a haze of disillusion and disappointment having been shut out 6-0 and having lost 2 in a row for the first time since September 2022 when they dropped 3 in a row before going on their Championship run.

On Sunday however, it was a little different.  The first game versus the Northside Astros, last season's returning Champions, was a tightly contested pitcher's duel with both teams' pitchers hurling complete games in a winless effort.  Even though the final score was 2-2, it was the Cyclones who had the most opportunities to score as they had put the most men on base giving themselves ample chances but not able to convert.

The second game started slightly different as they jumped out to a 1-0 lead against the Rangers in the first inning. They expanded upon that lead to 5-0 before the Rangers would score a couple of runs to make it 5-2.  The next inning, the Cyclones would extend their lead to 7-2 before slowly allowing the Rangers to creep back in to the game.  Things became a little dicey towards the end as the Cyclones took their 7-4 lead into the 8th and final inning and between the heat and pure exhaustion allowed 2 more runs to score and finished the game with the tying and winning runs for the Rangers on base resulting in a 7-6 Cyclones victory.

SILENCED
Cyclones are shutout for the first time in 18 months,

April 29, 2024 - The last time the Houston Cyclones were shutout it was at the hands of these same Expos back on Oct 9, 2022. We all know what happened later that season.  This time however, the Cyclones truly had no answer for what was being served in front of them. The Cyclones mustered only 2 hits on the afternoon while striking out 12 times, 6 of which were looking. This team is made up of 11 players that were part of the last time the Cyclones won a championship. 5 of the 7 new additions have playoff and championship experience in the HHL. One thing is for certain, this team will reevaluate and recharge and will not let something like this happen again.

A's TAME CYCLONES
Offense sputters while miscues pile up in sloppy loss to Athletics

April 15, 2024 - The Houston Cyclones could not get any aspect of their game going on Sunday.  Pitching was erratic, offense could string together any hits and the defense left a lot to be desired.  A tightly contested game through 4 innings, Cyclones starting pitcher Dean Cosme, while not having his best stuff, was keeping the Cyclones in the game. a 3-1 lead for the Athletics grew to 5-1 and then 7-1 in consecutive innings as the Cyclones defense began to cough up runs.  Conversely, the A's did a great job at keeping the Cyclones off the bases, but when they did reach, A's pitching were able to induce a few double plays to quash any rallies. Even, in the 8th inning, with what seemed to be the Cyclones biggest threat, the A's were able to end the Cyclones hopes as they turned their 3rd double play of the game and shut the door on the Cyclones.

CYCLONES INDUCE MELTDOWN
Offense continues to roll as Cyclones put up 11 runs on defending champs in game marred by controversy

March 25, 2024 - Starting pitcher Justin Putnal wasn't at his best, but at the same time he was dealing. Tossing a shutout through 3 innings, Justin ran into a little trouble after delay in the game the previous half inning. After getting the first 2 outs of the inning, Justin allowed 2 consecutive hits including an RBI double and then an error led to another RBI single before inducing an inning ending fielder's choice. In the bottom of the 5th, Justin allowed 1 earned run before getting out of the inning and giving way to newcomer Eddie Baray.

In the top of the 3rd, the game was delayed by an administrative error caused by Mgr Dean Cosme. After taking a 7-0 in the 3rd inning, Cosme decided to add a batter to the bottom of the lineup. That's where the error came into play.  Cosme for got to inform the Astros and failed to remind the batter to announce himself. As members of the Cyclones began to realize what was happening, they called out to have the batter step out or call time or something.  The Astros pitcher, looking to take advantage, proceeded to deliver the pitch despite the calls to stop.  This is where things began to meltdown. The Astros pitcher began yelling for the batter to be out while Cosme was yelling that the Cyclones were calling out addition.  Game play was stopped as the home plate umpire contacted the Chief umpire for clarification.

In the end, the batter was allowed to continue his at bat.  However, the at bat did not go without incident. The Astros pitcher proceeded to attempt to hit our batter missing 3 consecutive pitches. After walking the batter, the Astros pitcher then began throwing at the next batter.  It was then that the manager for the Astros called "time" to remove their pitcher. It was also at that time that the pitcher was ejected from the game. Cue MELTDOWN.

2 innings later, the Cyclones offense would strike again as 5 of the next 6 batters would single and plate 4 more runs. Eddie Baray would finish off the game securing the 11-4 victory over the defending champs.

UGLY WIN BUT STILL A WIN
Pitching, defense not up to par but offense steps up to fuel the comeback victory against the Rangers

March 17, 2024 - Manager and starting pitcher Dean Cosme labored through 4 innings on Sunday morning in an attempt to allow the Cyclones offense to overcome his pitching deficiencies as well as to overcome their own sub par defense in a game marred with pitching and defense issues for both teams. Cosme allowed 8 runs (only 3 earned) over 4 innings, allowing 9 hits in the process while striking out 1 and allowing 2 walks.

However, the Rangers were worse and the Cyclones made them pay for their transgressions on the mound and in the field. The Cyclones jump started their comeback with their first batter in the first inning. Cyclones newcomer Eddie Baray smacked a leadoff HR to centerfield.  While that was the only run of the inning, it was a preview of things to come from the Cyclones. Taking advantage of poor pitching from the Rangers, the Cyclones generated 18 walks to go along with the 10 hits they collected en route to a 20-11 victory over the Rangers.

NEW YEAR, NEW SEASON, NEW UNIS
Just like MLB, the Cyclones have a new supplier and the hopes are high

February 21, 2024 - The Spring 2024 Houston Cyclones season will introduce the 9th incarnation of the Cyclones jersey that has seen changes every 2-4 seasons as trends change and the roster turns over.  In this latest incarnation, the biggest reason was supplier availability. A new supplier was able to capture the look that Owner/GM/Manager/Player Dean Cosme was looking for.  It's a hint of tradition with a whiff of modern styling as well. And for the first time, the Cyclones will have 2 uniforms to choose from as they are offering players Home and Away jerseys thanks to sponsorships the team was able to obtain. Below is the mock up of the new jerseys. Enjoy! See you on the field in just a few short weeks.
