INSPIRED COSME STIFLES PANTHERS

Guy Koenig ropes an RBI single to left vs. the Panthers September 3, 2020

Sep 4, 2020 - Channeling his best Tom Seaver, who passed away 4 days prior, Cyclones manager/starting pitcher Dean Cosme was bound and determined to not let the situation or circumstances occurring in the game around him to affect his ability to pitch his game. The game began ominously enough as Cosme got the lead off hitter to hit a grounder to short which was promptly mishandled. The next batter softly blooped a grounder to 2nd which was thrown into left field allowing the runner to advance to 3rd setting up a 1st and 3rd situation and the batted balls haven't even traveled 200 feet. A sac fly and a fly ball double play got Cosme out of the inning allowing only 1 unearned run.

Cosme would pitch another 4 innings allowing only 2 hits and another unearned run before giving way to newcomer Doug Bridges to close out the final two innings as the Cyclones took full advantage of a variety of Panthers errors and miscues. Speaking of Doug Bridges, Doug and free agent acquisitions Guy Koenig and Lawrence Ceballos led the Cyclones offense with 2 hits each including 2 doubles from Doug.  Overall, the Cyclones scored 16 runs to soundly defeat the Panthers 16-3.

CYCLONES BLOW LEAD-END IN TIE
Comeback goes for naught as late inning miscue evens the game

BJ Galvan swings during a game vs. the Diablos August 14, 2020

Aug 15, 2020 - After giving up 3 runs in a relatively disastrous start to the game, starting pitcher Dean Cosme settled down against the Diablos and allowed only 1 run over the next 4 innings. In the meantime, the Cyclones forged forward and got themselves back in the game. In the 3rd inning, Cosme led off with a single to short right center field followed by a single of his own from Priamo Reyes.  With Jared Watson running for Cosme, the Cyclones pulled off a double steal which resulted with Watson scoring when Ray Mariano was struck in the helmet by the Diablos catcher as he attempted to throw to 3rd. While the error allowed Watson to score, the result of the play was Mariano leaving the game due to a cut above his right eye, the collateral damage from his helmet breaking from the force of the throw that struck him.

In the 4th and 5th innings, newcomer Daniel Lozano and Dean Cosme both reached base and hits by Doug Bridges and Priamo Reyes respectively.  The final run scored by Cosme gave the Cyclones the lead only to see it vanish in the 8th inning when a sure popup to the infield fell to the ground. The runner subsequently stole 2nd, advanced to 3rd on a ground ball and then scored on a wild pitch.

PANTHERS HOLD OFF CYCLONES
Ample opportunities abound, but Cyclones rally cut short in the end

Aug 8, 2020 - Down 7-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th inning, the Cyclones scored a pair of runs in the 4th and 5th innings to get within 2 of the Panthers but a defensive miscue on the part of the Cyclones gave the Panthers 2 additional runs late in the game and the Cyclones rally in the final inning was cut short with a play at the plate, ending the Cyclones hopes for a tie or walkoff. Final score Panthers 9 Cyclones 7.

CYCLONES BEST MARAUDERS
Strong hitting from Galvan and Pringle lead Cyclones

Jul 19, 2020 - Acquired last season as a free agent, BJ Galvan has been a steady, reliable force on the Cyclones.  And that was on display once again Friday night as Galvan led the team with 3 hits, a run scored and knocked in the decisive RBI to give the Cyclones their first victory since 2019.

Also leading the charge was newcomer Karl Pringle who came up big in this game with 2 doubles, an RBI and scored 3 times as well.

Pitching on Friday night was up to Karl and another newcomer Douglas Bridges.  While our hitting kept the Cyclones in the lead, it was Douglas who kept the Marauders at bay in the middle innings and gained the victory for the Cyclones.

COSME K's RAMON THRICE
But after 4 month layoff due to pandemic, Cyclones hit the field to familiar woes

Jun 13, 2020 - Shortly after the Spring 2020 HHL Draft, the Cyclones were poised to begin the season with a lot of questions marks about  their ability to field a competitive team. But then the pandemic hit and the city was shutdown. All the while, the Cyclones were still recruiting players to join the team. Fast forward 4 months and while not a lot has changed pandemic-wise, the Cyclones seemed to have made strides on the roster which may bring them back to respectability.

The road to respectability began last night in Cypress as the Cyclones took on their rivals the Texas Thunder. Manager Dean Cosme took the mound once again and while the end result, a 7-1 loss, was a familiar sight, the manner in which they lost was not as familiar as compared to the previous season. This loss wasn't a matter of poor play or lack of effort. It was a competitive matchup where the stronger, more veteran team showed why they were the better team. The Cyclones, on the other hand, have revamped the roster with only 4 returning player from the fall and just were not able to muster much offense.

And on a lighter note from the evening, Manager and starting pitcher Dean Cosme struck out 8 batters including opposing manager Carlos Ramon three times, twice looking.
