CYCLONES FIZZLE IN THE 104° HEAT
Expos defeat the Cyclones for 4th time this season, advance to the finals

July 11, 2022 - The weather works for or against both teams. It's how it affects each individual that determines the success or failure of that individual and/or team. In the case of the Cyclones, it cannot be determined if the extreme heat of the game had any adverse affect on the team.  What can be determined is that the team as a whole did not hit particularly well. The Expos starting pitching allowed a 1st inning 2-run home run to Kyle Keena and that would be all that he would allow and all that the Cyclones would score. After the first inning, the Cyclones would hardly mount a threat.

CYCLONES SPLIT DH. FINISH SEASON 5-5
Hurricanes tame Cyclones 9-4 in game 1, but Cyclones erupt in game 2 to steamroll Northside Astros 13-2

June 13, 2022 - On a blistering Sunday afternoon, the Cyclones played 2, but only won one.  Not bad all things considered.  In game 1, the Cyclones were unable to muster up much of an offense as they scattered 4 runs across 8 innings. On the other side of the ball, the Cyclones were not able top contain the top half of the Hurricanes lineup and ended up allowing 9 runs to cross.

Game 2 however was a different story for the Cyclones. leading 3-2 after 3 innings, the Cyclones tacked on 2 runs in the 4th and then erupted for 7 runs in the 6th innings while Justin Putnal locked down the game from the 3rd inning on.

June 6, 2022 - Time off is not a Sunday team's best friend.  While it might be good for some, as a team, it doesn't help momentum. In the case of the Cyclones, the time off made it feel as they were just waking from a long winter's nap. The top of the batting order sprinkle some hits throughout but never were able to string anything together that would for a rally, Offensively, Tom West had a day as he went 2-2, 2 runs and 2 SB to score 2 of the Cyclones 3 runs. On the other side of the ball, the Cyclones threw 4 pitchers at the Expos and all suffered from lack of luck except for Alfredo Rivas who tossed 3 scoreless innings allowing only 1 hit yet facing only the minimum.

CYCLONES SWEEP DH VS. MARAUDERS
Cyclones walk-off Marauders 9-8 in game 1, while offense explodes for 18-2 victory in Game 2

April 25, 2022 - Victimized by shoddy defense, starting pitcher Dean Cosme left the game after 6 innings down 8-5 but the Cyclones never felt out of it. Both teams changed pitchers as well as their fortunes in the 7th inning as the Cyclones held the Marauders scoreless in the top half of the 7th inning.

In the 7th however, everything changed. After tacking on a run in the bottom of the 6th inning to make it 8-6, the Cyclones entered the bottom of the 7th with the intent to walk off with a victory.  Hector Rios started the rally with a leadoff single. Hector promptly stole second putting himself into scoring position. Consecutive doubles by Dre Vappie and Juan Zuniga plated Hector and Dre. Ben Musher came in as a courtesy runner for Juan, who is the Cyclones starting catcher. BJ Galvan was intentionally walked to put runners on 1st and 2nd. Still with none out, newcomer Alfredo Rivas roped a single to center field to drive in Ben for the winning run and walk-off victory.

In the nightcap, Justin Putnal took the mound for the Cyclones and pitched a complete game, albeit a 5 inning game because the Cyclones took full advantage of the limited Marauders roster.  While Justin only allowed 2 runs (1 earned), the Cyclones offense in every inning but one and every player had at least 1 run scored as the Cyclones offense exploded for 18 runs in 5 innings.

EXPOS TOPPLE CYCLONES 6-2
Expos held the Cyclones offense to just 5 hits

April 11, 2022 - What looked like would be a typical offensive game for the Cyclones turned out to be the opposite. In the 1st inning, after Andy Murrell reached base on a walk, OF Andre Vappie smacked a double to deep left center field to drive in Murrell with only 1 out. That would be all the scoring the Cyclones could muster until the 7th inning when Andy Publes reached base on a hit and score on an error.  It was a tough loss for newcomer Alfredo Rivas who pitched well, but was the victim of an offense that went cold.

CYCLONES WALK-OFF ASTROS 10-9
Final inning comeback aided by 5 walks and an HBP

April 4, 2022 - For much of the game, the Cyclones were playing catch up.  Manager and starting pitcher Dean Cosme didn't quite have his best stuff, but errors behind him didn't help his cause either.  Cosme allowed 7 runs in 5 innings of work. Justin Putnal came in for the last 2 innings and while he allowed 2 runs he held the Astros down in the top of the 7th allowing the Cyclones to stay within striking distance.

The final inning saw the first three batters take a walk to load the bases.  Ben Musher singled to drive in the first run. Andy Murrell also singled driving in the second run. A walk and an HBP brought in the next 2 runs.  Down 1 and still no outs, the Astros pitcher uncorks a wild pitch allowing the tying run to score. Another walks setups up the final play of the game.  Newcomer Alfredo Rivas then bloops a single into the Bermuda triangle behind shortstop that played the winning run. All in all, the Cyclones got 5 walks, 1 HBP and 3 hits in the inning to secure the walk-off victory.

GRITTY CYCLONES FALL TO HURRICANES
7 run 3rd inning dooms Cyclones in loss to Hurricanes

March 28, 2022 - The Houston Cyclones let one slip away from them as a 5-2 lead turned into an eventual 11-7 loss at Meyer Park Sunday morning. Newcomer Alfredo Rivas started on the mound for the Cyclones and was pitching well when in the 3rd inning he just couldn't locate his curve ball and had to rely on his fastball which in some cases found a little too much of the plate. Overall, 7 runs were scored in the inning and the damage was done.

Despite the Cyclones best efforts, their rallies were shut down by the Hurricanes in 3 out of 4 innings where they had multiple runners on base and were only able to scratch out 2 more runs the rest of the way.

2022 Houston Cyclones set the pace for Spring season with 6-2 victory over the Marauders

March 14, 2022 - Baseball's back and so are the Houston Cyclones! Refreshed after last season's title game appearance, the Cyclones are poised to make a return trip with one thing in mind...win it all!

Yesterday's first game of the season put the Cyclones in the right direction as they defeated the Marauders 6-2 at Cougar Stadium in Norhtland Christian School. Lead by the strong pitching of Justin Putnal (pictured) and newcomer Alfredo Rivas, the Cyclones held the Marauders to just 2 runs on the day. Offensively, the Cyclones were lead by Hector Rios, who blasted a HR and last season's rookie Juan Zuniga, who legged out a bases-loaded triple as well.

Mar 4, 2022 - Winter doesn't seem to want to end, and Major League Baseball doesn't seem like they want to entertain the fans. But the Houston Hardball League is raring to go! Men's league baseball begins in earnest Sunday March 13 and its full steam ahead. And for the Houston Cyclones, they look to build on the momentum of the previous season and make a trip back to the Championship game with the hope of winning it all this time. With mostly the same roster returning with some additions at hand, the improved roster looks to make an immediate impact and establish themselves as the team to beat this Spring.
