CHANGE IN THE AIR?
As the Spring 2026 Season quickly
approached, are the Cyclones ready for change?
Feb 23, 2026 - When the Houston
Cyclones take the field next month, in early March, the one
thing that will look familiar will be the faces on the team.
What won't look familiar will be their uniforms. It's
well known that Cyclones manager Dean Cosme is a big New
York Mets fan. The team's uniforms have been modeled
after their New York counterparts for several seasons now,
as well their color scheme has always been orange and blue
except for their first 3 seasons where the color scheme was
taken from the Brooklyn Cyclones, hence the name.
Not wanting to be too obvious about the
origins of the colors, Cosme chose to make the blue a more
neutral blue. Not so navy, not so royal. That would last
until the Fall 2015 season when after managing the team as
the Houston Cardinals for 1 season, the original name of
Spring Cyclones was restarted and the colors now were an ode
to the Mets, royal and orange. Through a variety of
iterations, the color scheme had remained that way until the
Spring 2025 season where after creating a few mock ups for a
new uniform, the team chose the 2000 Mets color scheme of
black, blue, orange and white. Fire!
Shortly before the end of the Spring 2025
season, the Cyclones were gifted a surprise set of new
uniforms which were replica style uniforms of the new Mets
away uniforms, what I like to refer to as the blue on blue
outline uniforms. Those jerseys were used for the entirety
of the Fall 2025 season that just ended. Now, for 2026, the
Cyclones are once again going to sport new jerseys and use a
set for home and away. See the mock ups below. With a few
new faces, one returning face and a couple of departures,
the Houston Cyclones have gone through this before, but the
core remains and that's why the Cyclones will be a force of
nature to reckon with for quite some time. See you on the
field!
